This knife with chain from Ninja Assassin is a handmade replica of Raizo's signature chain blade from the 2009 action film starring Rain. It measures 12 inches overall, with a 7-inch D2 tool steel blade and a 5-inch aluminum handle, and it arrives sharp in an original leather sheath.
Raizo's Chain Blade
Directed by James McTeigue and produced by the Wachowskis, Ninja Assassin follows Raizo, a ninja who turns against the secret clan that raised him. His weapon of choice is unlike anything else in the film: a blade attached to a long chain, thrown out and pulled back in sweeping arcs.
The weapon was created for the movie. The production team started from the kyoketsu-shoge, a traditional ninja tool that pairs a hooked blade with a rope, then swapped the rope for a chain so it would hold up against swords on screen. The final design added a hook on the blade and a weight at the far end of the chain. Rain trained for weeks to handle it, and it became the defining image of the character.
D2 Blade, Aluminum Handle
This replica brings the blade end of that weapon into a solid collectible. The 7-inch blade is D2 tool steel, a high-carbon, high-chromium steel that holds a keen edge and resists stains better than plain carbon steel. It is not fully stainless, so wipe it dry after handling and add a light coat of oil from time to time.
The 5-inch handle is aluminum, which keeps the knife light for its size and gives it the sleek, modern metal look of the screen piece. It needs only a wipe with a clean cloth.
Each knife is made by hand, so small differences in finish are part of its character. The fitted leather sheath protects the edge for storage or display.
