This Westworld Man in Black knife is a handmade replica of the large Bowie carried by Ed Harris's gunslinger in HBO's Westworld. It is 18 inches overall, with a 12-inch high carbon steel blade and a 6-inch wood handle, and it arrives sharp in an original leather sheath.
The Man in Black is a veteran guest who has been returning to the park for some thirty years, and through season one his Bowie is rarely out of reach. He drives it into a saloon table during his conversation with Dr. Ford, and later uses it to cut himself free after being hoisted into a tree. The knife became so closely tied to the character that it was even reforged on the blacksmithing series Man at Arms.
It also plays a part in the show's biggest reveal. Viewers noticed the younger William, played by Jimmi Simpson, holding what looks like the very same knife, one of the clues that linked the two timelines before the season one finale confirmed it. For fans of the show, the knife carries that whole story with it.
At 18 inches overall, this replica keeps the big, commanding scale that suits a Western-styled blade. The 12-inch blade is the centerpiece, long enough to read clearly as the Man in Black's knife whether it is on a wall, in a case or in hand.
High carbon steel gives the blade a traditional character and takes a keen edge. It does need a little attention: wipe it dry after handling and apply a light coat of oil now and then to keep rust away. The 6-inch wood handle gives a full, comfortable grip and a warm natural finish that fits the Old West setting of the park, with grain that varies from knife to knife.
Each piece is made by hand, so small differences in finish and grain are part of its character. The fitted leather sheath protects the edge during storage and keeps the set together.
If you are building a shelf of screen blades, our movie replica knives collection gathers more of them, and the Aldo Raine Bowie knife from Inglourious Basterds makes a natural companion. For more large frontier designs, browse our Bowie knives.
