This Timber Rattler Western Outlaw Damascus Bowie knife takes the familiar Western Outlaw pattern, a large Bowie from the Timber Rattler line sold by BudK, and makes it by hand in Damascus steel. It's an independent handmade piece in that style, not a BudK or Timber Rattler product. It comes to you new and sharp, with an original leather sheath.
A Damascus Take on the Western Outlaw Pattern
The Timber Rattler original is a mass-produced stainless steel Bowie with a blade just under 11½ inches. This version keeps the Western Outlaw profile but changes two things buyers notice right away. The blade is Damascus steel, and it runs a full 12 inches, making the knife 18 inches long overall. The layered Damascus pattern covers the whole blade, and because the pattern comes out of the steel itself, no two of these knives look exactly alike.
A blade this long puts the knife at the large end of the Bowie range. That makes it a good fit for anyone collecting Damascus Bowie knives or anyone who simply wants a big western-style Bowie with more character than plain stainless.
Wood Handle Sized for a 12-Inch Blade
The 6-inch wood handle gives a full-hand grip in proportion to the long blade. It also suits the knife's western look better than synthetic scales would. Natural wood varies in grain and color, so the handle on your knife may differ slightly from the one in the photos. That's part of owning a handmade piece. The included leather sheath protects the edge between uses and when the knife is on display.
Caring for Damascus Steel
Damascus needs only simple care. Wipe the blade clean and dry after handling, then apply a thin coat of oil before you put it away. For long-term storage, keep the knife out of its sheath, because leather can hold moisture against the steel.
