This handmade Jack Burton boot knife is a replica of the blade Kurt Russell's trucker keeps tucked in his right boot in John Carpenter's Big Trouble in Little China (1986). Jack spends the film talking big, driving the Porkchop Express into Chinatown and waving a pistol that gets him nowhere, but it's the knife in his boot that settles things at the end. This collector-sized version has an 8-inch D2 tool steel blade, a Micarta handle and a 13-inch overall length, and it arrives sharp with an original leather sheath.
On screen, Jack's boot knife was a Gerber TAC II, a compact 1980s fixed blade with a double-edged, partly serrated blade of about six inches. It carries the movie's best-known payoff: Jack throws it at David Lo Pan and misses, Lo Pan sends it straight back, and Jack catches it and returns it to the sorcerer's forehead before his famous "It's all in the reflexes."
This replica takes its cue from Jack's knife without copying the factory piece, and it is not made by Gerber. It is noticeably larger than the screen knife, with a longer blade and handle, and it is built in different materials, so it reads as a fuller-size piece for a Big Trouble in Little China collection rather than a pocket-sized boot blade.
D2 is a high-chromium tool steel valued for holding an edge and standing up to wear. It resists rust better than plain carbon steel but isn't fully stainless, so wipe the blade dry after handling and give it a light coat of oil now and then. For long storage, keep the knife out of the leather sheath, since leather can hold moisture against the steel.
The 5-inch Micarta handle is a layered resin composite. It doesn't swell, shrink or crack with changes in humidity the way wood can, and it keeps a steady grip with very little upkeep beyond an occasional wipe.
