This Australian Bowie knife is a handmade replica of the big outback Bowie that Mick Dundee pulls in Crocodile Dundee, the knife behind the film's famous "That's not a knife" line. This version pairs a Damascus steel blade with a stacked leather handle. It arrives new and sharp in a leather sheath. It is a fan-made piece, not an official prop or a licensed product.
Few movie knives are as recognizable. The original was made for the film by Australian film armourer John Bowring, and its size was the whole point: Paul Hogan's character answers a mugger's switchblade by drawing a Bowie many times bigger. That moment made the big Bowie part of the outback image, and it's why "Australian Bowie knife" and "Crocodile Dundee knife" now point to the same oversized style.
This replica follows that idea of a full-size outback Bowie rather than claiming to be a measured copy of the screen knife. The proportions, the long blade and the traditional look are what connect it to the film.
At 18 inches overall with a 12-inch blade, this is a true large Bowie, at the top end of traditional Bowie sizes and big enough to deliver the scale the film made famous. The Damascus steel blade is forged from layered steels, which creates a flowing pattern that varies from knife to knife.
The 6-inch handle is made of stacked leather: leather washers pressed together and shaped into a grip. It is a classic handle style on traditional Bowie and hunting knives, with a warm look and a secure feel.
To care for Damascus steel, wipe it dry after handling, oil it lightly now and then, and store it out of the sheath for long periods so moisture isn't trapped against the steel. Keep the stacked leather handle dry as well.
Prefer a plainer blade? We also make a Crocodile Dundee knife in D2 tool steel with the same stacked leather handle. For more patterned blades in this style, browse our Damascus Bowie knives.
