This 13 inch carbon steel camping knife pairs an 8-inch 1095 steel blade with a 5-inch deer antler handle. It is handmade by Unique Blades Runner and arrives sharp, with its original leather sheath included.
1095 is a plain high-carbon steel with roughly 0.95% carbon. It has long been used for outdoor blades because it is straightforward to resharpen, including at camp with a simple stone. With 8 inches of blade, this is a large camp knife suited to everyday camp chores such as cutting cord, preparing food and trimming small branches.
The handle is natural deer antler, so its color, texture and shape vary from piece to piece. No two handles are exactly alike, which gives each knife its own character.
Caring for a 1095 Blade
Carbon steel is not stainless, so it needs a little attention as a knife for camping. Wipe the blade dry after use and give it a light coat of oil before storage. Over time it can darken to a gray patina, which is normal for this steel. For long-term storage, keep the knife out of the leather sheath, since leather can hold moisture.
